Braai Kindling is sold in a 10 kg Drop — WoodDrop's smallest unit. One Drop of Braai Kindling is enough to start 15–25 fires with one firelighter cube each. For the braai season or a full winter of fireplace use, one Drop of kindling typically lasts two to three months alongside regular firewood orders.

Braai Kindling is a fire starter, not a fuel load — it burns quickly by design. Kindling is cut thin and dry so it catches fast and builds the sustained heat needed to light the main hardwood logs above. Kindling is consumed during the fire-starting phase; the main firewood takes over once the core temperature is reached.
Braai Kindling vs Eco Firelighters
Braai Kindling and Eco Firelighters work together, not against each other. Eco Firelighters (R29) are the ignition source — they catch from a single match. Kindling is the bridge — it burns hot and long enough to transfer heat to dense hardwoods like Kameeldoring that won't catch from a firelighter alone. For hard-to-light species, use both. For easy-lighting woods like Black Wattle, a firelighter without kindling may be sufficient.
How to light Braai Kindling
Stack Braai Kindling in a loose tent or cross-hatch over one firelighter cube. Light the firelighter. Kindling catches quickly and burns long enough to generate the sustained heat needed to ignite the main hardwood logs above. Add main logs when the kindling is fully alight, not before. Five to eight pieces is enough for most fires — using too much at once smothers the flame.
Storing Braai Kindling in Cape Town
Braai Kindling is pine at under 10% moisture — among the driest material in the catalogue. Pine absorbs moisture faster than dense hardwoods, so good storage matters. Keep kindling covered or indoors. A bucket or box in the garage works well. In Cape Town's humid winters, even slightly damp kindling will hiss and struggle to light — moisture absorption significantly reduces fire-starting reliability.

Do I need kindling if I have firelighters?
For easy-lighting woods like Black Wattle and Blue Gum, a firelighter alone is usually sufficient. Can I use Braai Kindling as the only fuel?
